What is Digilocker?


DigiLocker is a website and app in which you can store most of your government documents. For this you only need an Aadhaar card. With the Aadhaar card, you can save all your documents on DigiLocker. These documents include documents such as driving license, voter ID, PAN card, income tax return document, property tax receipts. Apart from this, there are many government departments that support DigiLocker. According to DigiLocker you can fetch (download) your document from any DigiLocker supporting government department website. For this, users have to create their account in Digilocker's website (https://digitallocker.gov.in) or in App. The advantage of having a document on Digilocker is that you can access it from anywhere and the documents that are featured in it are valid everywhere. For example, if the traffic police ask for your license or RC and you do not have an original document, you can show your license and RC, faked in DigiLocker. Like this, you can use it in many places.

How to create DigiLocker account?


Initially, users need an Aadhaar card number to sign-up in DigiLocker. You can sign-up in it only with the Aadhaar card number. Let's know how to sign-up through the app on DigiLocker. You can use this method on the website as well.

First step

Open Google Play Store on your smartphone and download and install DigiLocker app from there.

Second step

Now open the app and click on Sign-Up. If your account is already created, then sign-in.

Third step

After clicking on sign-up, you will have to enter your mobile number, after which you will get an OTP. After submitting the OTP to the app, the app will ask you to create a user name and password. Here you have to create a user name and password.

Now your Digilocker account will be created and ready. The special thing is that you do not need to create your profile on DigiLocker, because information like profile picture, name, address etc. will be taken directly from your Aadhaar card. After creating a DigiLocker account, you can also sync DigiLocker account with Facebook and Gmail.

How to upload or Fetch documents?

First step

Users get 1GB of data storage in DigiLocker account. To upload documents, first select the document type given there. Here you will find document options like SSC certificate, HSC certificate, Pan card, Voter ID card etc.

Second step

While uploading a document to a DigiLocker account, it has to be kept in mind that you can only upload a document in a select format. These include JPEG, PDF, JPG, PNG and BMP formats. Also, keep in mind that the file size should not exceed 1MB.

Method of Fetching documents directly from any government website

You can fetch your document directly from the website of the government department. For this, you have to go to the Issued tab on the home page of your DigiLocker app and click on the search icon below. Here, you have to choose the department according to your document and submit your details on the next page and fetch your document.
